2. How would you like to meet?
3. Would you like your faith or personal values to be part of therapy?

Whole-person care, warm rather than clinical

Rather than focusing only on symptoms, Healing Harbor works with the whole person. Trauma, anxiety, relationships, self-worth, life direction, and recovery are treated as connected parts of your story, using proven methods chosen for you.

CBT
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Notice the thought patterns that keep you stuck and practice new ways of responding.
DBT skills
DBT-informed skills Concrete tools for calming intense emotions, getting through hard moments, and staying present.
ACT
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Make room for difficult feelings and move toward what matters most to you.
ART
Accelerated Resolution Therapy A structured, eye-movement-based approach that eases the hold of painful memories. How ART works
Nature
Nature-based interventions Use the grounding effect of the outdoors and the North Shore landscape. What nature-based sessions look like
Faith
Faith or values, if you want it Your personal values or faith can be part of therapy, only when you ask for it.

From the research: in a randomized trial with veterans, people who received ART had greater reductions in PTSD symptoms than a comparison group. Kip et al., 2013

From the research: a 90-minute walk in nature reduced rumination, the repetitive negative thinking linked to depression; an urban walk did not. Bratman et al., 2015

Published research describes group results. Individual experiences vary.

Ryan Rusnak Founder and Therapist

Hi, I'm Ryan.

[CLIENT TO PROVIDE: credentials and license types, exactly as they should appear]

Ryan founded Healing Harbor to offer warm, individualized care that treats mental health, trauma, and addiction as connected parts of a person's story.

My goal is simple: to offer a calm, welcoming place where you can heal from the past, build healthier ways of coping, and move toward a life with more peace, confidence, freedom, and purpose.

How getting started works

  1. Step 1: Schedule a phone call

Book a short call or reach out by phone or our contact form. No referral needed.

  2. Step 2: Talk about fit

Share what you're looking for, ask questions, and see if Healing Harbor feels right.

  3. Step 3: Complete intake

If it is a good fit, we schedule your first session and send paperwork ahead of time.

  4. Step 4: Begin, at your pace

Your first session is about getting to know you. We build a plan together from there.

Questions people often ask

How do I get started?

The easiest first step is a short phone call. You can schedule a phone call, call us, or send a message through our contact form. On the call we’ll talk about what you’re looking for, answer your questions, and see whether Healing Harbor is a good fit. If it is, we’ll walk you through scheduling your first session and completing intake paperwork.

What should I expect in my first session?

Your first session is mostly about getting to know each other. We’ll go over paperwork, confidentiality, and how therapy works, then talk about what brought you in, what you’ve already tried, and what you hope will be different. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear goal. Many people feel a little nervous before the first session, and that’s completely normal. We’ll go at your pace.

[CLIENT TO PROVIDE: session length, e.g. 53 minutes, and how intake paperwork is completed]

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Healing Harbor offers in-person sessions at our office in Duluth and secure telehealth (video) sessions for people anywhere in Minnesota. Because of licensing rules, you need to be physically located in Minnesota during a telehealth session. Many people use a mix of both.
